Cherry has been working with garments, fabrics and textiles since 1981 and in 2007 graduated with a first class honours degree in Fashion and Surface Design from Bath Spa University. She has also completed City and Guilds 1 & 2 in Embroidery and has over 20 years experience of all aspects of textiles and fashion.

“My work with textiles has led me into fashion and from there into designing and creating objects from wire, using techniques of weaving, crochet and knitting. The textiles I create have inspired me to design lighting installations and a range of jewellery which has a theme of the sea, reflecting my love of the Cornish coastline.

“I still find time to teach dressmaking and needlework techniques and I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and meeting new people. It gives me great satisfaction to introduce someone to the basics and see them become more skilful as we go. I love to see people creating beautiful and durable garments and know that I have helped them to do that”.

“I have a range of workshops where I teach dressmaking, needlework and specialist skills to make garments and soft furnishings. My workshops are friendly and are small enough to allow you to work at your own pace - whatever your level of skill - which I find is by far the best way to learn.  All workshop sessions are three hours long and during the first hour you will be sewing technical samples to create your own reference folder. In the remaining time you will be guided through the process and techniques for creating your own garment.

“Courses are generally six or eight weeks and I also run weekend courses from time to time. To create a toile plus your garment in the 6 or 8 week timeframe you may need to undertake some work at home.

“You will need to join either a beginners level or an intermediate level workshop if you have experience or if you have previously completed one of my courses. Workshops are held either at the Husqvarna Studio or at my own studio, both are in central Bath and sewing machines are provided.

“To book, please call 01225 482413 or visit the Husqvarna Studio, 27 Charles Street, Bath. If you want more information, please contact me on 07764 514754 or cherry@cherrywindmill.com. Courses cost £60 for six weeks and £80 for eight weeks - others are individually priced.
